Got Nothing To Do?

When was the last time you did absolutely nothing for at least 10 minutes? Maybe you believe you don’t have the time to sit still when you have to cook, do the laundry, or watch your favorite TV show, etc. you get the idea.

Our culture wants us always to be busy…doing something. But what if getting in touch with your spiritual side-were as easy as just doing nothing? That’s right. No journaling, deep meditation practice, or checking your social media pages. Just stepping back from your usual activities to simply be.

A good time to do nothing is anytime you feel stuck. So put the phone away, sit in a quiet place and allow the space to connect with yourself on a deeper level. Time spent doing nothing clears our monkey mind.

Don’t be afraid of the empty place. There are times we have to go deep within to be free of the stories and beliefs that entrap us.

Being present and engaged in doing nothing is a spiritually satisfying state. Let any worries and problems slip away from your mind. Allow this time to be free of any distractions and avoid writing your honey-do list. It’s in this clean state of mind that you’ll find a connection to self.

Does sitting with a glass of wine count as doing nothing? 🙂

  1. Why take only 10 minutes, why not about 41 minutes, and do nothing to the sounds of the Neil Diamond’sw “Johnathon Livingstone Seagull” soundtrack. You don’t have to listen to it consciously, just have it playing softly in the background where your spirit can hear it It will be greatly appreciated. Depending on what you believe, it may have some untenable words and phrases in it, but don’t let them bother you. Your spirit will edit for you. But anyway, it’s 41 minutes of uplifting music. What could be better than to do nothing and be uplifted at the same time…?

    1. Totally agree with you. I grew up listening to the soulful Neil Diamond. Listening to smooth music is good for your soul! 🎼As a song in search of a voice that is silent and the one God will make for your way 🎼

  2. I had to learn it’s okay to do nothing.
    My monkey mind always looking for something I should be doing or something my family should be doing. Then one day I tried it and had a spiritual awakening! Today doing nothing is on my to do list.

  3. Great post, always good to remind ourselves to disconnect from all the social media and technology and just take some time to ourselves. Yoga has helped me with this as well.

    1. Eventually through practice ignore your internal dialogue. It will reduce or stop the chatter altogether. Attention is energy because energy follows where attention goes. So don’t give your attention to your dialogue if you want to achieve stillness. Good luck.

  5. My do nothing state seems to be my meditative state. I look up until I hear the voice of the Infinite Creator saying once again. I Am here. That’s when the download begins. That’s when all my questions are answered, That’s when I am set on the most productive course. It’s amazing what can be accomplished in the state of doing nothing.
